Malta

Last year, I went on holiday to Malta for 4 days, taking my Minolta Dynax 404si and my Fuji GA645Zi. It was my first time going on holiday by myself, so my main objective was basically just to take some nice photos. I shot Cinestill 400D and Kodak Ultramax 400 on 35mm, and a roll of medium format Fujifilm Pro400H.

I was staying in a hostel in St. Julian’s, just north of the capital Valletta, which was where I headed for my first day on the island, walking round via Sliema where a few of these photos were taken. I love the big, coloured bay windows they have there, they’re really the main thing that attracted me to going to Malta in the first place. That, and the history, I suppose.

The next day, I took the bus to Paola, partly because I was planning to see Hibernians the next day so wanted to check out their local area, and partly to see The Three Cities. The weather was a little cloudier, which I don’t think the Cinestill film handled particularly well, but I still think I got a few nice shots. There are also a couple photos from an evening wander in St. Julian’s in there..

On Day 3, I got the ferry over to Gozo, Malta’s second island, to check out Victoria, see Ggantija, and watch Hibernians thrash Floriana 5-2. I’d finished the Cinestill by this point, so was on to the Ultramax on my Minolta. Overall, a pretty solid day, but it did involve a lot of walking and just about making the last ferry back at the end of the day.

On my last day, I went to Mdina, the ancient capital of Malta, and its kind of sister city, Rabat. As pretty as Mdina was, I didn’t really feel that there was anything there that I wanted to photograph, so I moved on relatively quickly to Rabat before going on a walk to the coast from there. Just had a look on my phone there and I averaged about 30,000 steps a day on this holiday. Nice.

Just going to finish off here with a round up of my 10 favourite photos from the trip. Probably won’t usually go for that many in each blog post, but I did shoot 3 rolls of film on this trip and there were quite a few bangers, so 10 it is (in no particular order).
